Mission Involvement
Thursday is a very special day during the Cherry Run Camp Meeting session. It is also known as Missionary Day, or among the youth and children the phrase seems to be "Mission Marathon." Special activities take place for the purpose of raising funds for mission projects. One method is for the youth to seek the sponsorship of adults who pay a certain amount to the youth which will be used for the mission projects. Pictured below is Wally who hit on the bookstore managers to sponsor him – ah, he was not the only one who did this![]()
Each year a missionary is featured who helps in teaching youth and is the speaker for the special mission day emphasis at Cherry Run, such as Tim Bell, who is with OMS International. In addition to informing us about how God is working in different areas of the world in the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Tim issued the challenge for people to consider God’s call to serve in mission work. A number of persons responded to that challenge. Cherry Run Camp over the years has been the place where many persons have heard God’s call to serve in mission fields and ministry all over the world.
One project Tim mentioned in particular was that of placing fix-tuned solar powered radios in the country of Haiti. These radios will be tuned to pick up Radio 4VEH, radio ministry of OMS International. For more information, contact

Another mission project featured on the grounds of Cherry Run Camp one year was the MUV (Mission Utility Vehicle) from Mission Utility Vehicles, Inc. which is based just north of Johnstown, PA.
These vehicles have been sent into many remote areas of the world to assist missionaries in their work, as well as helping to ease the burdens of people who do not have access to any other type of motorized transportation. The one pictured is modified and is used at the W. PA Annual Conference to transport those with physical limitations over the vast expanse of the Grove City College campus when the conference has its annual meeting. The vehicle is also used at other special events held around the conference and has been featured at a number of vacation Bible schools. One of the highlights of Mission Day is the water balloon event. For a fee one can purchase a water balloon to heave at selected targets who are confined to a certain space, the boundaries of which are marked off by a rope! Favorite targets seem to be counselors, members of the staff, and oh yes, the district superintendent! Maybe some want to take revenge for all that rolled oats he serves them at breakfast time! Pictured below you see the remains of balloons being retrieved by a somewhat dampened crew of people! As could be expected, there was considerable revenue derived at this "well saturated" happening!
Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
--- Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV)
