Needs and Deeds!

Help! Help! But Don't Call 911!! Two very urgent needs exist RIGHT NOW relative to Cherry Run Camp:
- There is an opportunity to cut down on mowing time by about 50% -- that is, if the camp can get a Cub Cadet zero-turn mower -- a M60 commercial quality machine is available for $6,000.00. Note - the machine being considered may not be exactly like the one pictured above, but will be similar.
- Sewage Treatment Plant -- A number of details with pictures are given below in regard to the sewage treatment plant need. The latest is this, as spelled out in our 2008 camp brochure -- the unit will be sandblased and painted on both the exterior and the interior surface. Old steel piping, etc. replaced with new plastic pipe and new control panels for pumps installed at approximately $35,000.
Hello, there! Welcome to a very challenging area of Cherry Run Camp. This is known as the "Needs and Deeds" area. Let me explain -- Cherry Run Camp has to be constantly maintained and updated -- this involves 3 main factors -- money to finance the deeds which have to be done, hours of work to do the repairs/improvements, and most often in these matters a crew of persons who are willing to volunteer their help to get the project completed which the Cherry Run Camp Meeting has deemed necessary. A couple of very urgent needs exist as posted just above me in this area.
So as time moves along this area will reveal needs that exist which have to be given finance support so that the maintainence and/or improvement will take place ASAP and those deeds that have already been accomplished so that the ministry and witness of Cherry Run Camp will continue in the future.
To make it a little easier for you to get around in this area, an index of the 2 major subjects is provided.

The Needs!
A DER officer inspected the Cherry Run Camp sewage treatment plant and wrote a detailed report. Basically it amounts to a major project of repair due to deterioration of the building and the fact that the swamp is "invading" the premises. To say the least, a major outlay in finances is involved here. Steps are being taken to determine what the cost is going to be. A sobering reminder -- DER has the authority to shut the camp down if the sewage treatment plant is not meeting the required standards in its operation!
See information as posted at the top of this area for the latest actions to be taken to repair the treatment plant.
Cherry Run Camp Sewer Line Replacement Sewer lines which run from camp buildings to the sewage treatment plant are very much in need of replacement ASAP!
The Deeds!
Here Was a Big One!!!
Roof Shingles Replaced on Shaffer Building
Shaffer Building with kitchen & dining hall on ground level
and dormitory rooms on second level. Here's how it happened!
It progressed this way -- at end of September '05 the shingles on the south side roof were replaced, thanks to a lot of volunteer help. Shingles have been purchased (in anticipation of rising prices) to do the north side roof sometime during spring of 2006. 'Tis finished! The north side roof was replaced in September 2006 -- thanks to the many persons who turned out to help with this important repair. Now the girls will have to actually go to the showers to bathe instead of getting showers in their dorm rooms when the thunder storms pass by!

Chevy Pickup Truck Donated to Cherry Run Camp Great news! One "need" has been wonderfully met through the generous donation of a Chevy pickup truck to Cherry Run Camp by Redbank Chevrolet located in New Bethlehem PA. The grand moment of presentation is seen in the photo above. From left to right: Blake Reed III, Cherry Run Camp treasurer; Dave Hrisak, member of Cherry Run Camp Board of Directors; Tom Seidle, owner of Redbank Chevrolet, handing the keys over to Jim Carmichael, caretaker of Cherry Run Camp. Snack Bar Roof Shingles Replaced New roof shingles were installed over the snack bar area as camp got under way in its 2005 session.
Roof Shingles Replaced on Cherry Run Camp Shop New roof shingles were installed on the shop roof during the 2005 session of Cherry Run Camp in spite of extremely high daytime temperatures -- think into the 90's -- lots of sweat ran and lots of water consumed on the days it took to complete this project!
Bookstore Floor Replacement & Painting In October 2004 a new floor was poured in the bookstore. This has eliminated the problem of water and all that yukky red stuff coming up through the cracks of the old floor! Thanks much to a number of persons who volunteered time and work on this major project. Prior to the 2005 camp session the walls and floor were painted. Eventually a suspended ceiling with new lighting will be installed. The bookstore also has the luxury of an air conditioner thanks to a donation from Agway (now owned by Surburban Gas) of Mercer PA. Delilah is very happy! Be sure to say, "Hello," to her when you stop in! Oooops! Check that -- while we hated to see her leave, Delilah has moved on to greater and better things -- look for her somewhere around the camp -- she may even have a new identity!
